The melodies are simple yet never boring, the harmonies are gorgeous and never stale, and when things get rough in battle, the music is tense without ever being alienating.įor composer Nobuo Uematsu, the Final Symphony project is "like a a dream come true." This is music so well written that it translates effortlessly to the orchestra, to different ensembles, and to solo instruments such as the piano. However, many performances of music from Final Fantasy are adapted from these fully synthesized scores because of the quality of the musical writing. The earlier soundtracks (beginning in 1987) could only be produced with synthesizers due to the hardware limitations of gaming consoles. ![]() The enduring music of Final Fantasy carries with it the history of video game music itself. When other great composers, such as Masashi Hamauzu and Yoko Shimomura, took the composing reins, Uematsu’s scores served as the blueprints they either followed or decidedly departed from, marking his legacy either way.
